WHAT CAN I DO FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?

WAS KANN ICH FÜR DIE UMWELT TUN?

On World Environment Day, we wanted to focus on what WE can do. Each and every one of us.

"The purpose of World Environment Day is to spread awareness about the threat to the environment due to rising pollution levels and climate change."

Every single action, no matter how small, has an impact. Only when we all develop a greater awareness of what good we can do for our planet will we achieve real change.

What can I do for the environment? We have a few tips for you!

➕ Our diet.  Okay, difficult topic, but immensely important. Ask yourself where your food comes from. The fruits and vegetables that end up in our shopping carts... should they even be available now? Where do they come from? Do they have a long journey behind you?  If you eat meat or fish, ask yourself under what conditions the animals were kept. Remember that 1 kilo of beef requires up to 15,000 litres of water*! You don't eat meat at all? Even better!

➕ Our  Mobility.  Yes, it is sometimes difficult. In cities, getting around is often easier and you can quickly get to the office or to see friends by bike or subway. In rural areas, it is more complicated. Nevertheless:  Just always try to ask yourself whether you really need the car for this journey - or whether you could just ride your bike instead. Carpooling is a great idea to save CO2 and still get from A to B quickly.

And even if the train is sometimes late – plan a little more time and travel by train instead of flying. Cologne - Berlin may take a little longer door to door with the ICE, but it is worth travelling with a better conscience.

➕ Our behavior.  We all want to experience something and enjoy nature and beautiful places. That's totally okay! But be responsible with your surroundings and take everything you brought with you back with you. "Leave nothing but footprints" is one of the greatest quotes you can in this context. Try to apply it.

➕ Our clothes.  And then we can also do something for the environment through the clothes we wear. What is the clothing I wear actually made of? What kind of materials are they? Where do they come from, where are they made and how does the package get there? actually to my home? And above all: what values does the company behind the brand actually have? Do they value sustainability?

At IKARUS we work to bring sustainability into all areas of our company. To be honest, this can sometimes be quite exhausting and expensive – but it is worth it. And it is actually not possible to achieve 100% perfection – but we get a little bit closer every day.
